Harlem has evolved into one of the city's hip neighborhoods, full of bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Harlem is also a center of jazz and bebop music. Many famous artists have performed at Harlem's Apollo Theater including Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald and James Brown.
This evening tour takes you behind the scenes of Harlem and covers all aspects of this famous neighborhood. You'll explore Harlem's musical legacy, its churches, spiritual centers and swinging nightlife.
After your tour of Harlem, you'll be treated to a traditional, home-style soul food meal at a local restaurant. Then, after dinner, you'll catch a jam session at a local Harlem jazz club, where two free drinks are included and the music is red hot!
On Mondays, you can dance the night away at Harlem's renovated Cotton Club, where you'll sway to the beat of a local swing band. Dance lessons are available on Mondays. |
New York Nightlife: Dinner and Live Jazz
Jive to live jazz at the famous Blue Note or Swing 46 on a memorable night out in New York City. Your night includes dinner, a night-time drive through Manhattan and round-trip transportation.
Your personal driver and guide will meet you at your Manhattan hotel to take you on a drive through the city. You'll pass through Times Square and head downtown toward SoHo and the Lower East Side. You'll then arrive at either Blue Note or Swing 46, where you'll enjoy live jazz music.
Since its inception in 1981, Blue Note has become one of the premier jazz clubs in the world and a cultural institution in Greenwich Village. What makes Blue Note so special is that on any given night, anything can happen. It is not uncommon to see the likes of Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Liza Minelli or Quincy Jones get up on stage. Blue Note gives jazz fans a chance to see the most unlikely combination of stars night after night.
Swing is a nightly affair at Swing 46 jazz club, in the theater district. Music is live nightly except Monday and Wednesday, when a DJ takes over, and runs the gamut from big band to boogie-woogie. Visiting Swing 46 is like taking a step back in time, with a giant main room, 16-piece band and high-back leather booths.
If Blue note is available you'll dine in a lively eatery in the heart of New york City's village, if the night tales you to Swing 46, dinner will be served at the venue.
At midnight your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel, or you can choose to stay on and dance the night away. |
